About Our Franchises

The Basics

Success Tax Professionals (STP) provides the opportunity to purchase an Accounting and Taxation Franchise and provide relevant services to clients.  In doing so, franchisees become a member of the Success Tax Professionals (STP) network of accountants. Our accountants and the accounting practices they establish comply with franchise requirements - including standards, quality and on-going professional development. STP is about building a true accounting practice and not a seasonal business. It is a myth that taxation is seasonal.

Achieving Professional Accounting Practice Level

Confusion often arises between seasonal tax return preparation (typically July to October annually), compared to the full functionality of a true professional accounting practice. Seasonal tax return preparation is typically found in a sub-set of the Salary and Wage or 'Individual Tax Return' market. People in this group generally want their tax return prepared in the first four months of the financial year in order to obtain their refund quickly, or they have chosen to complete their tax return themselves and are therefore not eligible for extended lodgement. Those who register in time with a Tax Agent do not usually have to lodge their tax return by October and have in fact until the month of May the following year.

Importantly, the total Salary and Wage market is estimated at less than 10 percent of the total taxation market. This means that accountants with the right focus, skills and service delivery options are able to obtain extensive work from a wide and diverse market which also comprises Business, Self Managed Superannuation Funds and other more complex taxation activities.

Success Tax Professionals franchises are therefore pitched at professional accounting and taxation practice level. We work with all of our accountants to achieve this goal. This means that work can be obtained from a wide client base and more challenging services are able to be provided (i.e. in addition to servicing the Individual tax return consumer who chooses professional services over self completion). Factor in that even within the Individual tax return market most clients officially listed with us have eleven months of the year in which to finalise their return as they are eligible for the extended lodgement provisions. They are not required to meet the end of October deadline set by the Australian Taxation Office. This allows for a more evenly balanced workload.

Our accountants therefore deliver the full range of services to Individual, Business and Self Managed Superannuation Fund clients. The diversity of the work provides the opportunity to secure continuous work. Some of our practices for example have a workload comprising 80 percent business clients and 20 percent Salary and Wage (i.e. Individual) clients. The compliance time-frames for business clients vary throughout the year.

On-going Professional Development

As the Franchisor, we are committed to the development of all of our accountants and this development is continuous due to constant changes in taxation policy, legislation and the needs of the consumer market. We train and upgrade the knowledge of our practitioners by delivering new material and by bridging identified learning needs.

The STP Franchise is therefore a unique model which incorporates intensive ongoing training, mentoring and technical support. We continue to develop our franchisees throughout their association with STP.

Furthermore we assist in finding affordable ways for our members to expand business, obtain commercial premises and undertake effective advertising. We have low cost and low risk methods in place to assist franchisees who wish to rapidly expand their business and total revenue. As the Franchisor we are therefore active in business development for our accountants on an individual basis and also for the entire Success Tax Professionals network and brand.

It is important to note that our accountants must complete any outstanding formal tertiary qualifications in the field, as necessary, and may do so after joining should this be the case.

Support

Our franchisees have access to extensive STP intellectual property including forms, documents, templates, letters, manuals, tools, processing systems, marketing material, artwork services, stationery and recognisable branding.  We design and provide systems and work related tools to simplify the work environment for our practitioners and to create identifiable consistency.

There is still plenty of scope for our accountants to add their own creativity to their practice while adhering to franchise requirements.

Commercial Focus

Can you work from home?  The answer to this question is 'yes', while you are phasing in, part-time and/or home based or mobile services are options, but you need to be able to move into commercial premises within 24 months and be operating on a full-time basis.  This is not anywhere near as daunting, expensive or unattainable as some people set themselves up to believe and making this change overwhelmingly results in a big difference to business outcomes and growth.  Home-based operators who are 'phasing in' are encouraged to use a number of different mediums to facilitate business until they move into commercial premises.

Part-time, home based or mobile servicing typically generates a small client base and allows pratitioners to establish rapport with this base, and refine work patterns and planning in preparation for larger scale business in a commercial environment.

Practitioners electing to commence in a commerical office obtain faster growth and access to higher paid forms of work.

Flexible Approach

There are a number of different recruitment levels into STP with different levels of support and supervision depending on an accountant's qualifications. This means that recruitment is open to both Non-Registered and Registered Tax Agents and also to applicants who have either fully or partially completed a suitable accounting qualification (providing they are prepared to continue studies to completion once they have joined STP). A more detailed description of 'qualification requirements' and also other 'suitability' criteria are outlined in our Information Package which is available if you contact us.  STP forms a strong working relationship with all franchisees and it is important that we both feel we can work together to achieve successful business results.

Understanding the Tax Industry

The Taxation Industry is estimated at approximately $14 Billion.

Less than 10% of the market is Salary and Wage or Individual Tax Return oriented.

Over 90% of the market comes from other sources including Business, Planning and Self Managed Superannuation Funds.

Taxation is therefore not a seasonal business.  It is continuous and on-going throughout the year.

Some Key Factors:

  • Success Tax Professionals are Registered Tax Agents and Public Accountants and hold all essential legal licences. The Franchisor is involved full-time in network training, support and relevant franchise development activities.

  • All of our accountants must have either completed their formal tertiary qualifications or be committed to continuing and finalising any necessary units or bridging units.

  • All of our accountants as well as holding formal qualifications or finalising these must also attend further compulsory training provided by the Success Tax Professionals Franchisor. This training is on-going diverse training and continues throughout an accountant's membership with the brand. This is an essential commitment that all franchise accountants must make. Programme participation is compulsory.

  • Our Professional Development Programme continues to enhance and upgrade the knowledge of network members. It is important to understand that formal qualifications do not provide accountants with many of the skills necessary to work productively, efficiently and accurately in practice. This is irrespective of the company an accountant belongs to, their level of experience, or how many qualifications they hold. Public practice in the tax industry is a specialised field. Success Tax Professionals accountants are required to keep up with change and the Franchisor is proactive in delivering a structured on-going programme.
